Howrey Earns Top Marks in 2009 Corporate Equality Index

09/02/2008

Howrey LLP, an international law firm, proudly announces that it has earned the top rating of 100 percent in the 2009 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Howrey joins the ranks of 259 other major US businesses that received top marks for their treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees.

The CEI rated 583 businesses in total, evaluating LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination policies, and health and domestic partner benefits. Howrey’s efforts in ensuring LGBT equality in each of the survey’s main criterion earned it the prestigious 100 percent ranking. The ratings are measured on a scale of 0 to 100 percent.

“I am pleased to see that not only does corporate America acknowledge it, but law firms also recognize the importance of equal and fair treatment across diversity lines. Out of the 583 companies surveyed, 64 law firms achieved the ranking of 100%. That’s an astounding number because just two years ago, only 13 firms achieved the ranking,” said Howrey’s Diversity Partner Patricia Butler.

A reception and awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in January in New York City for all companies that received a 100 percent rating.
