Howrey Named “Top US Firm in Europe” by Managing Intellectual Property

Washington, DC…July 31, 2008…Managing Intellectual Property has named Howrey LLP the “Top US Firm in Europe.” The award notes that in the past year alone, Howrey has hired key partners in London and has opened offices in Munich and Madrid. “With other offices in Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris, Howrey offers clients such as Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble a genuine all-around service, including prosecution, litigation, and competition advice, and in the past year has acted on some high-profile cases.”

Howrey received the award at a recent honors ceremony in London. Additionally, Howrey was honored by MIP at the US Awards dinner held in Washington, DC in April, 2008. The firm received top US honors for its ITC practice and for its Diversity efforts. Howrey’s entrance in Europe has been strategic and successful. In early 2008, Howrey acquired Martínez Lage, Spain’s leading specialist competition firm and within two months had added two well known IP specialists, Luis Fernández -Novoa and Laura Alonso. In 2007, the firm opened its German office with the addition of Joachim Feldges one of Europe’s top ranked Intellectual Property lawyers and his team. That office has grown to 11 lawyers.

The firm has continued to recruit some of the most respected names in Europe over the past several years in the firm’s three core practice areas – antitrust/competition, complex commercial litigation and intellectual property. In 2005, Howrey’s acquired one of France’s leading Intellectual Property firms - Cabinet Cousté & Cousté – bringing to the firm name partner Marina Cousté. Howrey opened its Amsterdam office in 2003 .Willem Hoyng, one of Europe’s top IP litigators heads that office. In 2002, the firm opened its Brussels office with Trevor Soames and later Götz Drauz, the former Deputy Director-General at the DG COMP, as well as other DG COMP notables. Brussels later added Carl De Meyer and Benoit Strowel, two of Europe’s best known IP litigators. Strowel currently heads the firm’s European IP practice.

In 2001 Howrey’s London office opened focusing on Intellectual Property. Today, that office houses partners in all three of its practice areas, practitioners who are widely respected throughout Europe.
