Four Howrey Partners Named to Daily Journal’s “Top Women Litigators” List

Howrey LLP is pleased to announce that four of its partners have been recognized by the Daily Journal as “Top Women Litigators,” an annual survey that selects 75 women who have exceptional leadership skills and are leaders in their respective fields. Mary Craig Calkins and Joanne Caruso are partners in Howrey’s LA office, and Teresa Corbin and Denise De Mory are located in the firm’s San Francisco office.

Mary Craig Calkins has received frequent recognition as a complex commercial litigator. She has been a commercial litigator and has litigated insurance recovery claims for more than 20 years in the areas of advertising injuries; employment practices liabilities, intellectual property (patent, trademark and copyright), product liability, professional errors and omissions, business torts, environmental and toxic torts and lender/fiduciary liabilities. She was also named to the “Top Women Litigators” list in 2007 as well as being named one of 50 “Women to Watch” by Business Insurance in the same year. Chambers USA acknowledged her as a leading business lawyer in the area of insurance recovery.

Joanne Caruso, Managing Partner of Howrey’s Southern California offices and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, has been named a “Top Woman Litigator” for the past several years beginning in 2005. She was also ranked as one of the “Top 100” lawyers in California by the Daily Journal. Additionally, she was included among the “Super Lawyers” in the area of business litigation. She has extensive commercial litigation experience which includes complex commercial contracts, insurance recovery, antitrust, unfair competition and unfair business practices, franchise relationships, real estate partnership disputes and patent infringement matters. She has participated in numerous trials, mediations and arbitrations.

Teresa Corbin is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group and a member of the Board of Advisors to the Executive Committee at Howrey. In addition to being named one of the “Top Women Litigators,” Ms. Corbin was recently named one of the top “Rainmakers” in the State of California by The Daily Journal Extra. Ms. Corbin’s counseling and litigation practice is primarily focused on high-technology matters. Her practice emphasizes early resolution of patent infringement disputes through litigation and alternative dispute resolution in a wide range of technologies, including bioinformatics, DNA chips, antibodies, graphics accelerator chips, PC-based microprocessors, LCD technology, semiconductor manufacturing, medical devices and EDA software.

Denise De Mory is an Intellectual Property Partner in Howrey’s San Francisco office, and one of the firm’s leading patent litigation lawyers. Ms. De Mory’s practice has been focused on patent litigation in the electrical engineering and computer science fields for more than a decade. Denise De Mory prides herself on being a trial lawyer as well as a skilled patent practitioner. She has significant trial experience, including a patent trial relating to cellular technology that resulted in a $61,250,000 verdict for her client. Many of Howrey’s women lawyers hold leadership positions within and outside of the firm. The firm has pledged to promote the advancement of women through its Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI).
