Michael Jahnke Joins Howrey
08/04/2009
Washington, DC, August 3, 2009…Howrey LLP announced today that Michael Jahnke has joined the firm’s global Antitrust Practice Group as a partner in New York effective August 1, 2009. Mr. Jahnke was former head of the U.S. Antitrust Group at Allen & Overy LLP, and previously worked at Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz.
Mr. Jahnke has worked extensively on antitrust issues in connection with U.S. and international M&A transactions and joint ventures. His practice spans various industries, including financial services, derivatives, energy, foods, tobacco, information services, telecommunications, paper/packaging, automotive and others. He also counsels clients concerning antitrust issues in connection with proposed M&A transactions or other business conduct, advocates before the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice to resolve or limit antitrust issues throughout the government merger review process, and directs clients’ compliance with governmental investigations. Mr. Jahnke has handled deals valued at over $200 billion in the last three fiscal years, including $65 billion in fiscal year 2009.
Mr. Jahnke joins an antitrust practice that has topped Global Competition Review’s GCR 100 since the survey’s inception in 1999. He is no stranger to accolades from high profile publications, as well. According to Chambers & Partners 2009, “his non-US clients laud him as someone who ‘provides us with a good level of understanding of the process at the US end.’”
“I am looking forward to being a part of this antitrust team. I believe that my practice will merge seamlessly into Howrey’s legendary group of antitrust professionals,” said Mr. Jahnke. “At a time when antitrust enforcement is broadly acknowledged as on the rise, both globally and especially in the U.S., I am excited by the prospect of serving clients' needs from a platform that combines virtually unmatched U.S. strength with a highly effective presence in Europe and Asia.”
“We are pleased that Michael has decided to bring his wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team in NY. He will complement the lawyers there, as well as our entire practice,” said Alan Wiseman, Co-chairman of the antitrust practice.
Michael Jahnke, 48, received his J.D., magna cum laude from Creighton University School of Law in 1986 and his B.A., summa cum laude from Huron College in 1982.
Howrey’s antitrust practice recently announced the hiring of MJ Moltenbrey. “Our practice has always been considered one of the world’s best,” said Sean Boland, practice co-chair. “With the additions of MJ and Michael, we will be stronger than ever on behalf of our clients.”
