Firm Named World’s Largest Antitrust Practice
Global Competition Review (GCR) has again named Howrey one of the world’s top competition practices, an honor the firm has held since the inception of the GCR 100 survey. The firm was named the largest worldwide antitrust/competition practice; singled out as attracting the highest number of lateral partners; ranked very high in the peer review category and was listed as one of the world’s “Elite 20.”
“Every member of our practice group, both in the US and Europe, has worked extremely hard throughout the entire year and we are gratified to be recognized by GCR for our success,” said Sean Boland, Practice Co-Chair. “While this is our tenth year in the top spot, we never take these honors for granted.”
GCR named Howrey the world’s largest competition practice. While most of them are located in Washington, DC and Brussels, many others are in Howrey’s other office worldwide. Boland underscored the need for significant presence in Brussels and Washington in an interview with GCR as the report stated, “Most agree that the size of as firm is a good indicator of its breadth and depth, particularly as antitrust enforcement – and antitrust counseling – spreads to all corners of the globe.”
Alan Wiseman, who Co-Chairs with Boland in DC and Trevor Soames in Brussels noted, “Another category where we led was in lateral recruits. I am pleased, but not surprised, that we have seen so many highly qualified laterals join the practice. They have made a strong team even stronger. Both in the US and Europe, we have added major players such as MJ Moltenbrey in DC, Michael Jahnke in New York and Claude Lazarus in Paris. ”
Soames stressed the importance of a market leading Brussels practice (recognized as one of the four elite practices by GCR in their August 2009 Brussels Survey) as well as the firm’s close and constructive cooperation between the US and European antitrust practices. “Our success is built on a great team of lawyers in Europe and the US complementing each other to secure continued success for our clients,” he said. “We have an increasing number of matters where we are representing clients in both Brussels and Washington. That, coupled with our expertise before some of the world’s toughest regulatory agencies, has made us the firm of choice for many of the world’s top companies.”
Now in its tenth year, the GCR 100 is an annual guide to the world's leading competition law practices, including the top 20 “Global Elite.” Compiled by the staff of Global Competition Review, the survey is the only publication to provide such an extensive qualitative analysis of the world's antitrust marketplace.
