Shaun Goodman joins from Cleary
Washington, DC, February 2, 2010…Howrey LLP announced today that Shaun Goodman will join its antitrust practice in London effective March 1, 2010. Mr. Goodman joins from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP where he led the London Competition/Antitrust group.
Mr. Goodman practices all aspects of EC and UK competition law, including competition litigation, merger control, licensing and distribution, intellectual property, restrictive practices, market dominance, market investigations and studies, and cartel investigations. He regularly represents clients in competition-related litigation before the English High Court and the specialist UK Competition Appeal Tribunal. He also has wide experience before the European Commission, the UK Office of Fair Trading and the UK Competition Commission.
“Shaun is an exceptionally good fit for Howrey. His strengths are our strengths,” said Trevor Soames, Co-Chair of Howrey’s antitrust group and head of the firm’s European Competition practice. “Shaun is expert in all facets of antitrust, especially litigation as well as merger work, and clearly enjoys the respect of clients drawn from many industries such as aviation, energy, media and financial services. As we continue to grow our antitrust practice in the UK, we look to Tom McQuail, and now, Shaun, to provide the leadership, expertise and energy to service client needs,” Soames said.
Sean Boland and Alan Wiseman, who Co-Chair the practice in the United States, echoed Soames’ welcome. “Alan and I join Trevor in welcoming Shaun Goodman to our practice. This is an exciting time for antitrust worldwide and Shaun’s experience and reputation will enhance our ability to serve clients.”
Mr. Goodman, 39, is well respected in the European and UK Competition community. Chambers UK notes, “Shaun Goodman has established a respected practice, and is lauded for his ‘depth of knowledge and ability to present views in a robust and convincing manner,’” while UK Legal 500 calls him a “top notch antitrust practitioner.”
Commenting on joining Howrey, Mr. Goodman said, "As competition law practice becomes increasingly contentious, Howrey's global strengths in both antitrust and litigation make it uniquely well-placed to advise. I am hugely looking forward to working with Tom McQuail to position Howrey at the forefront of London competition practice."
Mr. Goodman joins a practice that is considered the preeminent antitrust practice in the world. For the tenth consecutive year Howrey’s antitrust practice group was ranked #1 worldwide by the highly respected Global Competition Review’s “GCR 100” survey of the world’s top competition practices. In the United States, Comp Law360 named the practice group #1 in its annual survey identifying the largest U.S. antitrust practice groups, noting “Howrey LLP's impressive record of success in competition litigation keeps clients coming back, allowing the firm's competition group to continue to grow and prosper.”
