Making a Difference When it comes to giving back to the community, Howrey’s attorneys are as generous with their non-legal contributions as they are with their pro bono work. Howrey staff play a major role in organizing and contributing to the many charitable events the firm participates in. Below are a few of those projects. Beyond pro bono work, Howrey attorneys and staff generously contribute to numerous charitable events throughout the year. Bancroft Elementary SchoolVolunteers from Howrey’s DC office serve as tutors at Bancroft Elementary School in the District of Columbia. Howrey’s work with Bancroft began in 1993. This past school year, Howrey attorneys and staff spent a few hours a week working with students who needed improvement in various areas. Tutors provided not only educational support, but vital mentoring as well. Students got a special treat when they visited Howrey for a holiday party in December.
Olive Crest Homes and Services for Abused ChildrenOlive Crest Homes and Services for Abused Children provides homes and services for foster and at-risk youth in Southern California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington state. Howrey’s Irvine office made a difference in the lives of many of these children by fulfilling the Christmas wish lists of Olive Crest’s children in 2006.
Silicon Valley Law Firm Food DriveThe East Palo Alto office participated in the 2007 Silicon Valley Law Firm Food Drive benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank. The office collected a total of 1,063 pounds of food and a significant amount of cash. The East Palo Alto office received a Silver Award for its contribution to this very worthy cause.
In Law SchoolsEach year, through Howrey HELPS (Howrey Externs for Legal Pro Bono Service), grants are awarded to first-year US law students working at summer jobs. We fund students with strong backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment toward public service. By doing so we hope that these grants will put students in a better position financially and professionally to pursue careers in public interest throughout law school and after graduation.
Howrey HELPS recently funded ten full-time US summer positions with the following entities:- Alexandria Public Defender’s Office – Alexandria, VA
- Archdiocesan Legal Network – Washington DC
