Daily Journal Announces California’s "Top 100 Women Litigators”

Four Howrey Partners Named

Los Angeles, CA May 15, 2009…Howrey is pleased to announce that four of its partners have been recognized by the Daily Journal as “Top Women Litigators,” an annual survey that selects 100 women who have exceptional leadership skills and are leaders in their respective fields. Mary Craig Calkins and Joanne Caruso are partners in Howrey’s LA office. Martha Gooding is located in the firm’s Irvine office while Denise De Mory is located in the firm’s San Francisco office.

 

Mary Craig Calkins is a Partner in Howrey’s Los Angeles office specializing in complex commercial litigation with a focus on insurance recovery for policyholders. With extensive coverage experience in directors and officers liability, entertainment claims, e-commerce and technology claims, first party property and business interruption losses, and broker liability issues. Ms. Calkins has focused on insurance recovery for more than 20 years. Ms. Calkins has been named to the top women litigators list for the past three years consecutively. 

 

Joanne Caruso is the Managing Partner of Howrey’s Southern California offices. She is also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Ms. Caruso has been named to the Daily Journal’s “Top 100 Women Litigators” list for the fourth consecutive year. She represents Fortune 500 clients in all stages of federal and state court litigation throughout the United States. Her extensive commercial litigation experience includes complex commercial contracts, antitrust, unfair competition and unfair business practices, patent infringement matters, franchise relationships, real estate partnership disputes and insurance recovery.

 

Martha Gooding is a Partner in Howrey’s Global Litigation Group in the Irvine office. She has more than 25 years' experience representing clients in a broad array of complex commercial disputes, including trade secret and unfair competition actions, patent infringement litigation, securities claims, government and self-regulatory investigations, and employment-related disputes. Ms. Gooding has been recognized and has received many accolades for her expertise including: Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal 2009 Top Women Litigators, the Best Lawyers in America 2009 and Southern California Super Lawyers by Law & Politics magazine.

 

Denise De Mory is a Partner in Howrey’s San Francisco office and is one of Howrey's leading patent litigators. For fifteen years, her practice has been focused on patent litigation in the electrical engineering and computer science fields. She handles cases in areas involving semiconductor fabrication, circuit layout, circuit design software, medical devices and other complicated areas of technology. She has significant trial experience, including a patent trial relating to cellular technology that resulted in a $61,250,000 verdict for her client. She has tried a patent case relating to semiconductor fabrication technology, a trademark case and tried two employment cases.
