Susan Knoll's practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law, specializing in patent litigation. She has tried complex intellectual property cases nationwide. She has been lead counsel and co-counsel in jury and bench trials involving patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation. She litigates matters in a wide range of technologies including chemistry, biotechnology, semiconductor, computer and oilfield industries. Ms. Knoll counsels clients on intellectual property enforcement, prosecution and licensing matters. She has represented clients such as Monsanto Company and its subsidiaries, Intel, Kemin Industries and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company.
Prior to joining Howrey, Ms. Knoll worked at Henkel Corporation and at Dresser Industries doing research and development work in polymeric fluids for servicing oil and gas wells.
Representative Highlights
- Syngenta Seeds Inc. v. Monsanto Co., et al. Obtained a jury verdict for Monsanto that patents were invalid or not infringed. This case was named by the National Law Journal on its 2005 "Defense Hot List."
- Kemin Foods, et al., v. Pigmentos Vegetales del Centro S.A. In a jury trial, obtained a permanent injunction for infringement of a Kemin patent involving the dietary health supplement lutein.
- Monsanto Co. v. Scruggs. July 2004 summary judgment that Monsanto's patents were valid and infringed.
